NAMC Welcomes Melissa Armstead as New Chief Nursing Officer

FLORENCE, Ala., – North Alabama Medical Center (NAMC), a part of Lifepoint Health, is thrilled to announce the appointment of Melissa Armstead, MSN, RN, as its new chief nursing officer (CNO) effective June 1, 2025. A native of Muscle Shoals, Melissa brings over 18 years of nursing leadership experience and a deep commitment to patient-centered care to her role.
Armstead returns to North Alabama with a passion for serving the community that shaped her. “Coming home to serve the people of Florence and the surrounding areas is a profound honor,” said Armstead. “I am dedicated to fostering a culture of compassion and excellence at NAMC, ensuring our patients receive the highest quality care while supporting our incredible nursing team.”
Armstead, most recently served as CNO for Southern Tennessee Regional Health System (STRHS) - Lawrenceburg, a Lifepoint health facility in Lawrenceburg, TN, since June of 2023. She was a member of the hospital’s leadership team when it received Lifepoint Health’s 2023 Operational Excellence Award.
As CNO, Armstead will oversee nursing operations, drive quality improvement initiatives, and enhance staff development programs. Her extensive background includes leadership roles in acute care settings, where she successfully implemented innovative patient care models and improved clinical outcomes.

Armstead holds a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of North Alabama. She also holds a Certificate for Professionals in Patient Safety.
Her appointment marks a significant step forward in NAMC’s commitment to advancing healthcare excellence in the region.
