Abdelmohaymin Abdalla, MD
Associate Program Director -
Dr. Abdalla is a highly qualified and experienced pulmonologist practicing at North Alabama Pulmonology in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. He earned his medical degree in 2015 from the prestigious University of Khartoum, Faculty of Medicine in Sudan. Dr. Abdalla furthered his clinical expertise in the United States, completing his Internal Medicine residency at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine, where he also distinguished himself as Chief Resident. He subsequently completed a subspecialty fellowship in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. Specializing in Internal Medicine with a dedicated focus on Pulmonary Disease and General Pulmonary Medicine, Dr. Abdalla brings elite clinical training and a global perspective to his practice. Patients in the North Alabama region can rely on his extensive expertise for the compassionate and exceptional treatment of a wide range of complex pulmonary conditions.
Riddhi Upadhyay, MD
Core Faculty -
Dr. Riddhi Upadhyay is a highly qualified intensivist specializing in Internal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Upadhyay is from Canada and completed her medical school training at the American University of Antigua. She then completed her Internal Medicine Residency, along with being chief resident at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign - Carle Foundation. Dr. Upadhyay completed her Critical Care Fellowship at one of the largest hospitals and programs in the country at the University of Miami - Jackson Memorial Hospital. She worked at Geisinger Medical Center for 2 years as an intensivist and as core faculty and was awarded teacher of the year for the internal medicine residency program. Dr. Upadhyay is very passionate about internal medicine and critical care medicine and is a proud member of our community at North Alabama Medical Center’s critical care unit, providing care for our ICU patients.
Jan Westerman, MD
Core Faculty, Internal Medicine Residency Program Director -
Dr. Jan Westerman is a highly qualified critical care pulmonologist based in Florence, Alabama, specializing in Internal Medicine with a focus on Pulmonary Disease, Sleep Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Westerman completed medical school at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1985, followed by a residency in Internal Medicine at Keesler Medical Center. Further advancing expertise, Dr. Westerman completed a fellowship in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in 1991. Board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, and Sleep Medicine, Dr. Westerman provides comprehensive care for patients with complex pulmonary and critical care needs at North Alabama Pulmonology in Florence.
Javardo McIntosh, MD

Dr. McIntosh, a board-certified Internal Medicine physician with a specialization in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to North Alabama Pulmonology in Muscle Shoals. Dr. McIntosh has completed rigorous training including an Internal Medicine Residency at Wayne State University/Sinai Grace Hospital and a Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital. He is affiliated with prestigious medical societies such as the Society of Critical Care Medicine, American College of Chest Physicians, and American Thoracic Society. Patients can trust in Dr. McIntosh's dedication to providing high-quality care, backed by his comprehensive education from institutions like the University of The West Indies and Wayne State University.
Ahmed Gohar, MD
Program Director -
Dr. Gohar completed his residency at University of South Dakote before joining Critical Medicine Fellowship in Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH. He earned his medical degree from Ain-Shams University Faculty of Medicine in Egypt. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Critical Care Echocardiography and Neurocritical Care. Served as teaching faculty and associate director for the Internal Medicine Residency before transitioning to the Founding Program Director role for the Fellowship. He’s passionate about POCUS, mechanical ventilation and medical education, a field in which he is currently pursuing a master’s degree from John Hopkins University. Outside of work, he enjoys time with his family, cycling, and learning tennis.
Lukasz Myc, MD
Fellowship Research Director, Core Faculty -
Dr. Myc is a highly qualified and experienced pulmonologist specializing in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease. With a strong educational background, Dr. Myc completed his medical degree at Wayne State University, School of Medicine in Detroit, MI, followed by a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia, Dept. of Internal Medicine in Charlottesville, VA. He further pursued a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the same institution. Dr. Myc is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, and Critical Care Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Fluent in both English and Polish, Dr. Myc is dedicated to providing exceptional care to his patients. With his expertise in General Pulmonary Medicine, patients can trust Dr. Myc to deliver comprehensive and personalized treatment. Dr. Myc serves as a resource for guiding trainees with scholarly activity during their training at NAMC.
