ACOM Honors Dr. Robert Bailey as Regional Preceptor of the Year

FLORENCE, Alabama – North Alabama Surgery’s Dr. Robert Bailey has been named the North Regional Preceptor of the Year by the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM).

Bailey, who performs surgeries at North Alabama Medical Center, has been a preceptor since 2014, providing supervision and practical training to medical students.

The award was presented by Jonathan Howell, Executive Director of Clinical Resources at ACOM, during a ceremony attended by colleagues, students, and family members.

“Dr. Bailey’s influence ensures students are prepared to meet the challenges of modern medicine with empathy and professionalism,” said Mike Howard, CEO and Market President of North Alabama Medical Center. “By sharing his clinical knowledge, he helps shape the next generation of physicians who will carry forward the values of patient-centered care.”

The ACOM Regional Preceptor of the Year Award recognizes one preceptor from each of the four primary Regions (South, Southeast, Central, North) who embodies the attributes of an outstanding physician educator.  Individuals receiving this award exhibit a commitment to excellence in the clinical education of osteopathic medical students and serve as professional role models for future physicians.

Nominations for the awards must come from an OMS-III or OMS-IV student at ACOM and the nominee must have precepted at least 10 ACOM students.

“I really appreciate ACOM, as well as all of the medical students,” said Bailey. “They work hard every day and put in a lot of effort. That makes my job easier.”

Preceptors use teaching approaches that foster the knowledge, skills and values necessary for students to succeed in an evolving healthcare environment. They demonstrate strong clinical expertise, model and articulate clinical decision-making and manifest positive characteristics consistent with professional standards.
