North Alabama Medical Center Receives Donation from Safer Birth in Bama

July 21, 2025

FLORENCE, Ala., – North Alabama Medical Center (NAMC) is grateful to announce a generous $3,000 donation from Safer Birth in Bama to support labor and delivery services in its Center for Women and Children’s Health. This contribution, presented at the recent Mom Prom event, will help NAMC continue to introduce nitrous oxide as a new, low-intervention pain management option for expecting mothers.

“We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of Safer Birth in Bama, and we are honored to continue this partnership,” said Kendra Smtih, Director of Women & Children’s Services at NAMC. “We introduced the nitrous option a little over a year ago and they were already on board and willing to assist. This funding will be used to assist with the future addition of nitrous Oxide to our services.”

The annual Shoals Mom Prom is the largest fundraiser benefiting Safer Birth in Bama.

“Our mission to bridge the gap between traditional wisdom and modern medicine is statewide, but change starts right here in our own community,” said Jessica Thompson, president and co-founder of Safer Birth in Bama. “By investing in local hospitals, clinics, and care providers, we’re building a model of care we hope to see replicated in every county across Alabama.”

Safer Birth in Bama has been a dedicated partner with NAMC since 2018, and donated $2,500 at last year’s event. The organization’s ongoing support is instrumental in enhancing maternal care throughout the region. The addition of nitrous oxide will offer women a safer, more comfortable labor experience, reflecting NAMC’s commitment to advancing healthcare options for families.

NAMC is proud to collaborate with Safer Birth in Bama and looks forward to continuing efforts that support expecting mothers and families in the region.
