When Jorge Castell came to North Alabama Medical Center for his heart procedure Tuesday, May 21, he didn’t realize he was part of a milestone for our cardiac cath lab!

Dr. Tom McElderry performed Castell’s heart ablation – the 100th EP procedure performed, since Dr. McElderry started practicing at NAMC.

“I’m proud that this service is allowing people to stay in the Shoals for the treatment,” said Dr. McElderry. “This means 100 patients and families didn’t have to travel to Birmingham, which is a relief for those patients.”

Castell says the ablation treated a heart valve flutter. “I am very grateful I could have this procedure done here. I live ten minutes away, so this is convenient for my family. All the staff have been excellent. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.”
